The University of Texas M. D. Alzheimer’s Association’s Houston Memory Walk® 2008
The Alzheimer’s Association’s Second Annual Houston Memory Walk® is set for 8 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Buffalo Bayou Trail, 800 Bagby St., Downtown. There is no registration fee. Soldiers' Angels To Collect Items For U.S. Wounded in Iraq
Soldiers’ Angels will collect items needed by wounded soldiers at the 345th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Walmart Supercenter, 9025 Spencer Highway, LaPorte. Some of the articles needed include white tube socks, flip flops, foot powder, body lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste and freezer pops. Representatives of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army will be on hand with games and prizes.

Hot Rods, Horses and Harleys
The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo's Palomino Committee will host "Hot Rods, Horses & Harleys," 5:30 p.m.-midnight Sat., Sept. 13, at the Edwin Hornberger Conference Center. St. Timothy's Women's Craft Show

Weather Museum To Host "W-Zone" on Museum Day
The John. C. Freeman Weather Museum, 5104 Caroline, will host the “W-Zone” 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Museum District Day, Sept. 20. Unity and Angel Tree Ride

Conference Set by National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer
The National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer (NBLIC) will host the “Health Disparities Symposium on Cancer: Addressing the Issues,” Sept. 22-23 at the Marriott Houston, 1750 West Loop South. The conference for health professionals, co-sponsored by The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, will address racial and ethnic health disparities, clinical trials and African-American participation, barriers to health care, and cancer disparities. The Susan G. Down Syndrome Buddy Walk
The Down Syndrome Society's Eighth Annual Houston Buddy Walk is set for 6 p.m. Sat., Sept. 27, rain or shine. The Eighth Annual Xtreme Hummingbird Xtravaganza will be held 8 a.m.-noon every Saturday in September at the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory in Lake Jackson. 2008 Walk MS Series

West Houston Community Center Pro-Am
The Fourth Annual West Houston Community Center Pro-Am Charity Golf Tournament is set for a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start Sept. 29 at Pine Forest Country Club, 18003 Clay Road. Each amateur foursome registered at $1,500 will play with a pro. Lunch will be provided, and an awards ceremony and dinner buffet will follow. Gem & Mineral Show
The Houston Gem and Mineral Society’s 55th Annual Gem, Jewelry, Mineral, & Fossil Show will be held Sept. 26-28 at the Humble Civic Center. Annual Heritage Society Candlelight Tour
The sights and sounds of an old-fashioned Christmas come to Sam Houston Park 6:30-9:30 p.m. Dec. 12-13 as The Heritage Society presents the 46th Annual Candlelight Tour. Highlights will include paths lit by glowing candlelight, tours of some of Houston’s most historic structures, carolers, storytellers and crafters. In Santa’s Workshop, children can have their photos taken while visiting with St. Nicholas. Children can also play in the snow and build snowmen. In addition, The Heritage Society Museum will present “What’s Cookin’? Two Centuries of American Foodways,” an exhibit exploring the history and cultural development of food.
