Charlie Pallilo grew up in Bayport on Long Island, N.Y. Through high school, Charlie was a competitive and pretty damn good tennis player, but he realized at an early age that playing at Wimbledon or in a World Series or Super Bowl "was not in my future."
"From my preteen years, my design was on a career in sports," Charlie says. At age 12, he read Marv Albert's biography, "Yessss!" and his path began.
Like Marv, Bob Costas, Dick Stockton, and many other notables, Charlie attended Syracuse University and was a Rhodes Scholar candidate nominee along the way to earning bachelor's and master's degrees.
Out of school, Charlie's first full-time professional job was in Morgantown, W. Va. In April 1989, after 9½ months in Morgantown, he moved to Houston and joined the staff at KTRH. There, he worked up the ranks, first starting talk show duties in 1990.
After 10 years at KTRH, he moved on to SportsRadio 610 in August 1999. Some five years later, he's now taken on the new and exciting challenge of helping launch The Sports Animal.
"I admit that when I moved down here," Charlie says, "the thought was a couple of years in Houston would help me along, and the next stop would be back in the Northeast. But the career went well, Houston is a terrific place to live with tremendous diversity in almost all areas, and this is the place for me. Very few 75-degree January days in New York City."

It's only 1 game, it's only 1 game, it's only 1 game. But gawd!
So if a Texans fan were you more furious with them or laughing at them?
Extremely poorly prepared looking, with even worse playing.
But hey, Ahman Green didn't get hurt!

And just like that the AFC is wide open.
Not to the Texans of course...

"I hate the Astros!"

You get that? The spunky Stros are 6 off the wild card lead with 19 to play. They have the easiest closing schedule in the NL but are still something like a 100 to 1 shot.

Merely one of the most important sporting events ever. Texas Western with 5 black starters taking Kentucky for the 1966 National Championship. Don Haskins was the head coach. The "Bear" died Sunday at 78.

Any chance you basically blew off Colts-Bears once Serena-Jankovic started?
Great match, considering Serena won in straight sets.

"You spot me in Federer's box Saturday?"

The Drive Home show location Mondays this season. On St. Emmanuel next to the Lofts at the Ballpark.

Talk with you 3-6 ahead of the MNF doubleheader.

"We lost again last night. Somebody get me a meatless sandwich."

Brewers fell to the Padres. Astros 6 back with 22 to play.

My pick is a repeat of 8-8. Starting with 0-1.
6-10 would surprise me less than 10-6. But neither would be shocking.

"I've given over a quarter billion dollars to Oklahoma State athletics. I'm 80. Get on with it Mike Gundy."

UH is a 16 point dog as it tries to ruin Bonne Pickens's Saturday.
Mediocre slate of games tomorrow.

The Federer-Djokovic U.S. Open semi is a more compelling matchup than any college game tomorrow.

"Many many topics are matters of opinion. This one is not: I am one of the top 10 sex symbols ever."

Raquel Welch is 68 today. And at last view still looks good. Not One Million Years B.C good, but come on.

Lucky's Pub Monday.

Talk with you 3-7.

"Honey, I'm home!"

With plenty to talk about.
Phil Steele 4:05-4:30 with the weekly college football preview.

The Astros are far from in good shape. Probably still a 100-1 shot to snatch the wild card. But that's a heck of a lot shorter odds than 8 games ago.

The new modified NFL logo. We broke that here last year!
Skins at Giants to open the season tonight.
Patriots over Cowboys in the Super Bowl. Sometimes the chalk holds all the way.

Mondays this season we set up shop at Lucky's on St. Emmanuel. It's basically next to the Lofts at the Ballpark complex across 59 from MMP.

Mrs. Z is 27 today.

Talk with you 3-7.
